(*Note* okanaganlakebc.ca's reply in red)
I was told by someone that a letter or phone call was sent by this web site (or the person running it) calling the lady who works at the transfer station some very derogatory names (Not true and this is a false rumour.  Get the transfer station attendant to prove it because its not true!) I shall not even type as they are terribly offensive. (Who the people that told you the false rumour lol?) That transfer station is great and the people who run it are extremely nice and deserve to be treated with the greatest respect and decency for crying out loud. (Who RDCO or the ladies at the Transfer Station or both?) And if it isn't true then there you go, spreading and inviting rumours! Now they do it to you maybe, I hope so. (Your spreading rumours but that's ok, it's not bothering me any.  You may actually be helping by attracting attention here lol)  People are tired of this nonsense, it is childish and hateful on your part. It makes us want to move away. (Some people make okanaganlakebc.ca feel like moving away lol) Why don't you put up that letter (no such letter to lady at transfer station or it would be up on this website) on your web site like those emails between you and that resident you put up?  okanaganlakebc.ca is probably a threat to some people, and some people would go to great lengths to discourage okanaganlakebc.ca from publishing some things, like threatening to sue, name calling, bullying, false rumours, etc..  okanaganlakebc.ca can take it!

We have always had good service with the current transfer station and quite enjoy speaking to neighbours we run into there on the weekends. It is well maintained and the woman who is there is so friendly and nice. She even puts out flowers in the spring! I see all sorts of large bold statements here about someone wanting small transfer stations in each enclave of the neighborhoods. That would be very expensive and not esthetically pleasing for the home owners in my opinion. This is a rural community and our extremely low taxes reflect the fact we do not have garbage pickup and other city type services. Responsibly sorting and disposing of your garbage is each person's own responsibility and duty. If it is difficult for a home owner to get to the transfer station I wonder why they do not live in a city? We all need to take responsibility for our own homes and garbage disposal. Including maintaining your yard and ensuring yard waste is not a fire threat... I read somewhere on this web site someone wanting employers to give people a day off work to attend to their yards. That's ludicrous! If you have a home and yard it is your responsibility to maintain it and if you cannot it is your responsibility to find a way to do so... hire a company, call a family member or friend, the elderly could be assisted by their younger neighbours, etc. That's what home ownership and community is all about. Anyway, we think the transfer station does a wonderful job and hope it continues on. Thank you.

The solid waste survey sent by the Regional District of Central Okanagan by Canada Post to Westside Road residents finally arrived August 1, 2006. The survey does not address the issues brought to the Regional Districts attention by way of a petition signed by residents. Some residents in Valley of the Sun did not receive a copy of the solid waste survey as of August 1, 2006 and some residents did. I don't know that everyone will have a chance to return the survey because maybe not everyone will get one. If you did not get a survey in the mail you can download a copy at this link and email it to recycle at cord.bc.ca.

I don't have room to sort my garbage at home as I throw it out. I don't want to throw out 5 bags with hardly anything in them, even though I recycle my grocery bags using them as garbage and recycling bags. I heard on the news the other day that because people don't always recycle their shopping bags and they are going straight into the landfill, that they are wanting to charge an eco fee of .25 cents per shopping bag now. There is no place to wash my hands at the dump to sort my garbage there, and even if there was, the dump would be plugged with vehicles if everyone did that. I found this interesting link on the internet. It says we could just sort out metals and recycle approx. 90% or more of our garbage. We can produce growing medium and bullet proof building materials with it. http://www.todaysfacilitymanager.com/tfm_05_07_revolution.asp

The Regional District is inviting North Westside residents to an open house regarding Long Term Solid Waste Management on Thursday May 11, 2006 from 7PM - 9PM at Killiney Beach Community Hall just off Udell Road. It is important that you attend if you don't want to take your garbage to LaCasa or Sugar Loaf Mountain waste transfer stations, and want to be able to dump you garbage nearer to your own subdivision. The Regional District would like to hear from residents of the North Westside Road area, what their preferred method of service delivery would be.

Jim from the North Westside Communities Association called for a meeting with the Regional District of Central Okanagan. RDCO invited me to go to this meeting at Killiney Beach Hall, but when I got there I was kicked out by the NWCA. The NWCA told the Regional District that they would not hold a meeting with the Regional District if I was in attendance. The Regional District went to the NWCA meeting without me, but the Regional District and I held our own meeting after the NWCA meeting. We drove around and looked at some of the illegal dumping. The Regional District told me that the North Westside Communities Association said that a business in the area is willing to donate land for one more transfer station. The North Westside Communities Association told the Regional District of Central Okanagan to keep it a secret. I feel it must be LaCasa. I still feel we need smaller transfer stations in each subdivision, as I will still have to travel out of my way to go to LaCasa from Valley of the Sun. May as well still travel to Sugar Loaf for me, because once in a long while I can make it during dump hours at Sugar Loaf when I go to Vernon, but I never go to Kelowna, so it would be a special trip most times again to go the opposite way. I try not to go to town that often, maybe once or twice a month and I would like to take my garbage out more often than that.

I have a feeling the North Westside Communities Association is against our petition for another transfer station nearer to Fintry. The President of the North Westside Communities Association himself, Harry Pospolita, told me that he didn't agree with our transfer station petition. Us petitioners need to make sure the North Westside Communities Association does not foul up our plans to get another transfer station. Since the North Westside Communities Association is having the Regional District come to their meeting on Monday April 10, 2006, us petitioners are also holding a meeting at another location and after the North Westside Communities Association meeting with the Regional District, so we can find out what the North Westside Communities Association is up to. As soon as I know the date and time from the Regional District of when they can attend, I will post it here. If you want your voice heard by the Regional District we all need to turn out at this meeting or we may not get another transfer station at Fintry. I will phone everyone that signed the transfer station petition that wrote down a phone number, to let you know when the meeting will take place and where. If you want notification by email of the transfer station petition meeting, please send your email address to okanaganlakebc.ca We could hold a meeting at the view point located across from the entrance to Valley of the Sun.
